Carlton S. Wilcox-"Coxie" passed away on January 25th, 1990.
He is remembered by Alice "Notes from My Family History" in a record book that she started in 2006.
She met Carlton - "Coxie" - when he moved to Bainbridge and started school. She said that he always seemed happy and got
along well with everyone, and enjoyed most everything. He was also well liked by his class mates.
Mom and Dad used to go to all the high school sports events. They both played basketball. Dad played football and baseball.
Mom was in track and archery. They were both Captains of their teams. They also enjoyed dancing, and would find a place to
dance every Friday and Saturday night.
Mom and Dad dated thru her Jr. and Sr. years in high school- going "steady" most of the time. Mom graduated from high
school (1932) and found a job, Dad finished his last year in high school and graduated in 1933. They continued to date and
Mom knew she was in love!
Alice and Coxie became engaged on December 25,1935, and were married on November 26, 1936. They were married at her
parent's home on Thanksgiving Day. ft had showed over night and they worried that some relatives from Pennsylvania would
not be able to make the wedding - but they all arrived along with all the local guests. They had planned on going to Wyalusing,
PA for their honeymoon - to visit relatives who were not able to attend the wedding. A blustering snowstorm made the trip to
Wyalusing rather treacherous, but they arrived safely and spend two days there before returning home.
Mom and Dad's first home together was an apartment they rented on the other half of Grandpa / Grandma Taylor's two family
house. They were very happy there. Mom makes a note that she didn't really even have to leave home after they were
married. Mom and Dad raised Ben, Doug and Denny there. They moved to the farm on route 206 on May 31,1948. Judy was
born in October 1948. They did a lot of renovating on the house and in 1950, with Grandpa Fay's help, built a new barn.
* Mom and Dad spent many happy years on the farm. Milking cows, haying every summer, growing vegetables in the garden
and all the work associated with a small farm; plus both working full time at the Borden plant in Bainbridge. The "boys" and
Judy were active in sports and school activities - plus I am sure each can tell a story or two about their childhood! There were
many, many happy picnics and parties and holidays celebrated at the ol' farm house! Mom and Dad sold the farm in 1985 and
moved into a small home next door to us, and enjoyed happy years there also.
Things are different now, but will any of us ever forget all the chocolate chip cookies, the oatmeal cake, the zucchini bread and
delicious meals that Mom made, and that we all devoured in a heart beat! I don't think so!
So we will savor our memories and the way it use to be, and make new memories with our own families for our children to
remember and enjoy.
